Riverhead Christingle Services raise record amount for vulnerable young people’s charity

SOME GOOD NEWS: The Christingle services at St Mary Riverhead back in December raised a record £1,542 for The Children’s Society, which aids vulnerable young people by helping them to have a better chance in life. Thanks go to everyone at St Mary’s who helped organise the Christingle services, which were greatly enjoyed by all. You can find more about The Children’s Society at: www.childrenssociety.org.uk

RIVERHEAD PARISH COUNCIL: As the office in Riverhead Village Hall is not open to visitors at present, the best way of contacting the Parish Clerk is by email At: clerk@riverheadparishcouncil.org.uk

If you are unable to use email, the Parish Clerk will continue to check the office when possible during the mornngs of normal working days – Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays – for telephone messages (01732 461278) and post. You can find more information and some useful links on the council website at www.riverheadpc.kentparishes.gov.uk

You can also keep up to date by following ‘Riverhead Parish Council’ on Facebook and Twitter @RiverheadParish. For the whole of this period of uncertainty, Riverhead Parish Council will continue to endeavour to help you, and would appreciate your patience if it takes a bit longer to get back to you.

FRAUD WARNING:  Riverhead Parish Council strongly advises that anyone receiving offers of support – such as to do their shopping – from someone they don’t know should confirm that the volunteer is a genuine neighbour and not a fraudster.

VOLUNTEERS: If you want to volunteer to help others in your community with shopping or other small tasks during the Coronavirus outbreak (or alternatively if you yourself need help) you can register on the Sevenoaks District Council website at www.sevenoaks.gov.uk Or if you don’t have internet, phone 01732 227000.

BATCHELORS BUTCHERS: At time of writing, Batchelors Butchers, as a food shop, is still open for business (subject to the rules about social distancing and queueing) but the store regrets they can no longer accept new phone orders for delivery as they have been overwhelmed. I’m sure we all quite understand and wish them all the best. Hope they can stay open. Please note their new opening hours are: Tuesdays 8am-3pm, Wednesday 8am-1pm, Thursday 8am-3pm, Friday 8am-3pm and Saturday 8am -1pm.

NEWS WANTED: Obviously there are no organised events to report at present. But if you have any items of local interest or (preferably good!) news, however small the village correspondents would be very pleased to hear from you, preferably by email. The contact details for Riverhead are below.

The Riverhead village news is compiled by Maggie Miles. If you have any news or events you would like her to consider for the My Sevenoaks Community village column you can email it to her at: maggiejmiles@gmail.com
