Great Comp Gardens closes gates and the Easter egg hunts are cancelled – but you can still enjoy a virtual tour

As with other visitor attractions around the Sevenoaks area, the seven-acre Great Comp Gardens in Platt, near Sevenoaks, is closed to the public.  However, the small team are determined to share the garden ‘virtually’ via video on their social channels and their website, to benefit those who don’t have access to outdoor space during the coronavirus crisis.

Curator William Dyson said: “The garden is usually awash with visitors come spring. This year, the garden will stay quiet, apart from the spectacular chorus of bird-song each day. We want to lift our visitors’ spirits and share some really subtle and beautiful virtual video tours to recreate, as best we can, the sights, sounds and feeling of the garden.”

William and his son Isaac, who are based on site, have also posted instructional garden videos for regular visitors and garden lovers who are staying safely at home and taking advantage of the warm weather and tending their own back garden.

Great Comp Garden closed it’s gates on Saturday 24 March 2020, in order to ensure the safety of its visitors and staff.

The Trust who run the garden are closely monitoring the Government’s advice but have taken the decision to cancel their Spring Fling on the 19 April,  the Easter Bunny Hunt 10 April – 13 April and Hens & Gardens on Sunday 21 June.

As mentioned above, the garden is already sharing virtual tours on their YouTube channel and will be providing regular blogs and garden advice videos to their newsletter subscribers. It is easy to subscribe via their website www.greatcompgarden.co.uk

If Sevenoaks residents, regular visitors or devotees of the garden would like advice from the curator William Dyson and the team on what to do in their own gardens while they are at home, then please message or upload video queries to the team via Twitter @greatcompgarden or the Facebook page and they would be really happy to help and to be in touch with you!

The team at Great Comp wish everyone well and look forward to welcoming everyone through the gates when the time is right and safe for all.
