Schmidt Kitchen’s Top 5 Kitchen Trends In 2023 So Far

If you’ve ever taken a wander down London Road, the bustling street running through the centre of Sevenoaks town, then you’ve probably found yourself gazing longingly into the showroom of Schmidt Kitchens. We certainly have… and we implore you to walk through those doors because it’s like walking into a real life ‘kitchen interior’ Pinterest board.

The heart of the home

You often hear a kitchen described as the ‘heart of the home’. It’s not just a place where we chop veggies or stick a pizza in the oven, it’s a place where we entertain and create memories with friends and family. It’s a place where we can enjoy both everyday life and special occasions, like preparing a Christmas dinner, having a catch up with friends or where your baby explores new flavours for the first time. Everyone uses their kitchen differently and, as such, the design needs to reflect this.

Schmidt Kitchens Sevenoaks

Schmidt is a kitchens and interior solutions company with a 60-year history and their made-to-measure kitchens are 100% bespoke to homeowners’ requirements.

Adrian and Janice Tobitt are the husband/wife duo behind the Sevenoaks branch which has been sitting pretty for 5 years and weathering storm after storm; Brexit then Covid-19 and now an impending recession. Before that, Adrian had a construction company for 15 years – a carpenter and joiner by trade – building showrooms for Schmidt. Janice’s meticulous eye for detail and Adrian’s industry know-how are no doubt the reasons behind why this business continues to thrive.

As for local history, the building was once the old jail in Sevenoaks and, in the team’s office downstairs, there are still remembrances of this time, such as windows that peek into a tunnel system (one of which ends up at The Chequers pub on the high street). Very cool.

Top 5 kitchen interior trends so far in 2023

Looking for inspiration? Look no further as Ben Dutton, Sales Manager and Design Consultant of Schmidt Sevenoaks, shares with us the 5 most popular kitchen interior trends of 2023 so far…

Handleless Kitchens

Aesthetically pleasing, this style instantly gives the kitchen a modern, airy and clutter-free feel. The lack of handles on cabinetry combined with built-in appliances just looks and feels so clean, giving a distinct illusion of spaciousness. Handleless kitchens are ideal for customers who favour an open-plan design.

Super Matt and Ultra Soft Door Finishes

As with most things, it comes down to personal taste but it seems as though glossy finishes are no longer as popular as they once were. A super matt finish lends a level of sleek and chicness to your kitchen space as well as the added benefit of no reflectiveness and fingerprint-resistance helps a kitchen to look effortless clean. This look is great for kitchens with good natural light.

Vented Extractor Hobs

Move over unsightly and clunky extractor fans! No need for fluffy sales-speak here, the benefits are revolutionary and speak for themselves: safer to use, quieter than a fan, clever use of space, easier to clean and better distribution of heat (hobs stay hotter and less heat is removed). Need we say more?

Island layout

Arguably not a new trend but the island layout continues to remain at the top spot on a kitchen wish list. Not only do they look great and offer a separate space for entertaining or enjoying a family meal, but an island within your kitchen can offer additional storage and/or a natural space for more luxurious add-ons, such as a wine fridge (you had us at wine!).

Quartz worktops

Both opulent to the eye AND very functional, quartz countertops are made to be a hard-wearing material that is maintenance free and should last a lifetime. As they gain popularity, so does the value of appeal to potential buyers.

According to Forbes Home, “The manufacturing process allows unparalleled creative options. Made of 93% natural stone, they’re an excellent example of human ingenuity and nature combined. Quartz countertops pros and cons lists lean heavily toward the pros side.
