Local Care home staff march at Pride in London
Team members at Gloucester House, a Greensleeves Care home in Sevenoaks, took to the nation’s Capital on 2nd July to march in London’s annual Pride Parade. This year marked the 50th anniversary of the first London Pride in 1972, as well as the first one in three years due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Diana Sagu, a staff nurse from Gloucester House, attended along a fellow nursing colleague, and Senior Family Liaison Manager, Andy Wilson. They were joined by colleagues from other Greensleeves Care homes, as well as from the charity’s head office.
Andy Wilson said:
“It was a thoroughly rewarding experience to march in the Pride parade and represent both Gloucester House and Greensleeves Care. We operate with the slogan ‘You’re among friends’ as well as values of respect and openness so we were truly living our values on the day. Taking part in pride allowed us to express ourselves whilst showing support for LGBTQIA+ colleagues and residents.”
Diana Sagu said:
“It was amazing being surrounded by so much love and acceptance, it felt very overwhelming but so uplifting and wonderful. We should be living in a world where anyone can be who they wish to be, free of judgement and repression. It’s lovely to see we are moving towards that.”
Pride Month has been recognised throughout June at Gloucester House, with the theme of ‘celebrating diversity.’ The halls were decked with rainbow decorations and staff and residents could be seen throughout the month in a variety of pride t-shirts, wigs and feather boas!
The celebrations sparked some excellent discussions about how to make sure everybody is empowered to be their authentic selves.
Gloucester House residents and colleagues have always been active members of the local community, and as restrictions gradually continue to ease, they have been making the most of going out into the local area and beyond to join in with the community spirit.
Following on from pride, Lavender Fields were honoured to welcome the cast and crew of Wings which was filmed 3 years ago. If you would like to watch this short film then follow the link below:
