Weald village sets up a community initiative to provide care and help to those in need
During these uncertain times, WEald CAREs is a community initiative to provide practical help and companionship in Weald village to those who are housebound and in need. This is being run through an inbound phone line that villagers can call if they are in need of things like:
Groceries
Newspapers
Prescriptions
A lift to doctor/hospital
Loan of Books, Games and Puzzles
Light gardening
Loan of a garden implement
Someone to speak to Counselling
A call from the church
Carol singers
Within the next few days every household in the village will receive a leaflet through the door which will give information about how help can be obtained through phoning a dedicated local number.
01732 66 77 03
This is a three way process involving:
‘The caller’ (someone in need in the village making the call)
‘The volunteer’ (the person who answers the call and take details of the caller’s need) who will pass on the request to:
‘The helper’ (the person who will satisfy the caller’s requirement)
The number will be monitored from 9am – 6pm. The volunteer will let the caller know that a helper will call them back within a certain amount of time with arrangements to satisfy the requirement.
A leaflet will be hand delivered in the next couple of days to every household in the village. On one side of the leaflet, it will show the number (given above) and, on the other side, there will be a form to be completed if you can offer a service and details of who to send it to.
‘WEald CAREs’ dedicated phone line ( 66 77 03) will be going live at 8am on Monday 23 March. Leaflets about the initiative will be delivered to every household in the village before then AND copies will be available outside the Community Shop from 2pm on Saturday 21 March. If you are interested in volunteering (which you can do even if you have chosen to self-isolate) please visit www.weald.shop to find out how. All hands to the pump!

ST GEORGE’S CHURCH: Rev. Mandy Carr has shared the following information from St George’s Church: ‘All public services will be suspended for the time being but we are looking into ways of live streaming acts of worship and prayers, and publishing content to encourage and give hope at this challenging time. Please use all avenues of support in the community and if there is something that St. George’s can do to care for you or for a neighbour, please let us know. Our Pastoral Assistants are working with the team in the shop to provide coverage for our area, but without your help, it would be easy for people to fall through the net. Please let us know where we can assist and let us all keep our eyes open for those who need additional care at this time. I am aware that not everyone is on the internet, especially some who may be the most vulnerable, please can we use the old fashioned way of phoning people or even writing notes, just to let people know we are here and Weald does care.
‘The Church will remain open between the hours of 8.30am and 5pm to provide a quiet space for prayer and I will be observing morning and evening prayer there at this times (with the exception of Friday). I will be tolling the bell before these times to tell people we will be praying for the world – please join in with prayer wherever you are. Please use your common sense about whether to come in person to the church for prayer and don’t put yourself or anyone else at risk
