No embarrassing auditions for this ladies choir – all you need to do is love to sing. And there’s coffee and cake too!

NUMAMA is a daytime community choir that has been singing its way from strength to strength. Originally set up as a mum and baby choir five years ago, the choir has proved such a success that a second choir, a Ladies only choir, has now been launched.

Led by professional choir director, Dani Lemer, the choirs rehearse every Wednesday in term time and have performed at local events such as the Sevenoaks Festival and Folking in the Strawberries.

The idea for Numama was conceived in the summer of 2009 by two displaced British mums in Singapore who discovered they shared something in common beyond a dislike for dirty nappies and sleepless nights –  a love for singing. It was created to be a choir where mums could do something for themselves and challenge themselves in a totally different way.

When founding member Camilla Wells returned to Sevenoaks after her years abroad she continued the Numama story and the Sevenoaks branch opened in April 2013. Five years on, demand has led to the introduction of the Ladies only group which rehearses Wednesday mornings at 11am.

So much more than just a choir, Numama is a friendly group of ladies who relish performing together and also enjoy regular socials that have led to great friendships. In fact, many members of the mum and baby choir liken it to therapy!

There are no embarrassing auditions. No sight reading. No scary choir stuff. Just a group of like-minded women who get together to enjoy singing for an hour each week. In true Numama style, and as all good gatherings begin, rehearsals start with coffee and cake!
