Millie the Midget becomes a TV star
ONE of the classic cars available for hire from Danewest Automotive Ltd, who are based on the Chaucer Industrial Estate in Kemsing, became a television ‘star’ recently when it featured in the popular Antiques Road Trip show.
Owner Paul Dadson was contacted by the programme makers last year and they asked if he could provide one of his classic car fleet to be used during the making of the latest series.
They chose Paul’s 1979 MG Midget which is affectionately known as ‘Millie’.
Millie was driven around South West Devon and the Salisbury area during six weeks of filming by antique experts Christina Trevanion and Tim Medhurst who was making his debut in the show.
But this will not the last time Danewest Automotive cars will appear on screen. Paul has now also supplied classic cars for a celebrity version of the Antiques Road Trip starring models and television presenters Kelly Brooks and Denise van Outen, singer Peter Andre and comedian Joe Pasquale.
They drove Paul’s Morris Minor, Triumph Stag and Classic Mini during the filming in Kent around Faversham, Sittingbourne, Margate and Ramsgate.
Paul said: “We normally hire out classic cars for self-drive as well as providing cars and drivers for weddings, so for our vehicles to be featured on television is really exciting. Poor Millie had to deal with really bad weather during her Antiques Road Trip but handled herself admirably.
“This is our third year running the business and it is really picking up. So, we are expanding the fleet and hope to have 10 cars on the road for 2019.
