Local care home employee walks for Dementia UK with residents
Jane Stevens, a hostess at Lavender Fields Care Home in Sevenoaks, is walking 30 miles this month in aid of Dementia UK, and some of the residents at the care home are supporting her by walking with her.
Jane was inspired to take on this challenge as both her mother and mother-in-law are living with dementia, as well as many residents at Lavender Fields, which offers both residential and dementia care.
Whilst Jane is completing the walk outside of her duties, she is undertaking some parts of the route around the gardens of the home- and even within the home when the weather isn’t co-operating- to allow residents to join in with her if they wish to.
Two ladies who live at the Greensleeves Care-operated home, Dot and Janet, have been particularly supportive of Jane and have been walking alongside her around the home, spurring her on!
Jane said:
“I am pleased to be doing this walk for Dementia UK as this is a cause close to my heart. Both my mother and mother-in-law have dementia and I know what a cruel illness it can be. I also see how it has affected some of our residents at Lavender Fields, and that is why having them join me on the walk has made it more special.”
We are clocking up the miles more quickly than expected, so we will keep going to see how many we can complete within the month.”
Jane has already completed over 20 miles, so staff and residents at the home are encouraging her not to stop once she reaches 30!
If you would like to support Jane with a donation, you are welcome to pop into the home and sign her sponsorship form. The address is High Street, Seal, Sevenoaks TN15 0AE.
