Kemsing finalists serve up an exciting day of tennis at annual tournament
After having had the previous two years’ annual tournaments cancelled due to the pandemic, Kemsing LTC were able to hold its club finals day on Saturday (18 September 2021). The sun shone all day and the finalists provided a feast of exciting tennis for the spectators.
The morning began with the Men’s singles where Andy Bourne enjoyed victory over Matt Bance in a thrilling three set match lasting over two hours. The final scores were 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
On the court next door, the ladies’ singles was won by Anita Van Hensbergen who beat Julia Goss 6-1, 6-2.
After a BBQ lunch, the afternoon started with the ladies’ doubles where Alison Wickham and Anita Van Hensbergen, playing in her second final triumphed over Jane Ladbury and Hollie Miles 6-3, 6-3.
The men’s doubles also saw second finals for Andy Bourne and Matt Bance. Andy and his partner Matt Gregson won a closely fought match 7-6, 7-5 against Matt and Club Chairman Michael Elders.
The Men’s Vets singles between Ty Stalberg and John Marks saw Ty secure a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Late into the afternoon in his third match of the day, Matt Bance partnered Jane Ladbury in the mixed doubles and after an exciting tie break first set went on to win 7-6, 6-2 against club coach Steve Steffens and junior player Alice Loughnane.
The final match involved the Super Vets and Howard Cloke convincingly defeated Ian Head 6-0, 6-0.
