‘I do’ again! Care home surprises resident by recreating her granddaughter’s wedding
Wedding bells have been ringing out at Weald Heights Care Home, after a resident was surprised with a re-enactment of her granddaughter’s wedding, after she was unable to attend the special day.
Audrey a resident at Weald Heights, on Bourchier Close, was unable to accompany her granddaughter, Holly and now grandson in-law, Steve, on their special day, so the team decided to bring the big day to Sevenoaks and contacted the family to plan a surprise re-enactment.
Wedding celebrations were in full swing with the Weald Heights team going and above beyond to ensure the day went off without a hitch. The home was decorated with balloons, wedding bunting and an afternoon tea and glass of fizz which was enjoyed by everyone. Of course, the main attraction came in the form of the bride’s wedding dress. Holly was delighted to show her grandmother her wedding gown in person as a section of the dress included a cutting from Audrey’s original dress from her wedding day.
Maria Covington, Home Manager at Weald Heights, said: “We were delighted to bring Holly and Steve’s special day to Weald Heights for Audrey. It was incredibly hard keeping the plans a secret, but it was worth it to see her surprise when Holly and Steve arrived in their wedding attire.
“All of the residents enjoyed the ceremony and seeing the joy and love that was so beautifully apparent on Audrey and her families faces as Holly and Steve said, ‘I do’, brought more ‘tears’ to the residents and team than was on the wedding cake!
“We are so pleased Audrey got to experience her granddaughter’s wedding and wish Holly and Steve every happiness in their marriage. We hope they’re enjoying their honeymoon!”
