It was just over a year ago that former Town Mayor Cllr Roderick Hogarth took part in a similar ceremony when a time capsule was buried in the refurbished Bat & Ball Station which is next door to the Community Centre.

The community centre project has involved extending the existing hall and installing a new ventilation system.

The hall has new suspended acoustic rafts and lighting, and the roof structure is being replaced to improve the energy efficiency of the building. Renewable technology, such as solar panels, will be installed. The centre will also have a covered external play area containing a rubber crumb play surface.

The works are part of a program of regeneration known as the Northern Sevenoaks Masterplan.

Sevenoaks Town Council had made a commitment to the regeneration of Bat & Ball area and believed that a new community centre was a key component to this.

This included the refurbishment of the Bat & Ball railway station and there are future plans for affordable housing and commercial space.

The centre is being renovated with the intention of making it an attractive venue to hire for weddings and other functions. There will also be new meeting and function rooms which will be used to generate a secondary source of income for the council.

The burying of the time capsule at the Sevenoaks Community Centre will take place at 10am on Monday 1 November.

The time capsule at Bat & Ball Station will be reopened in 2062 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of when Bat & Ball was originally built.
