Town council invites Sevenoaks residents to celebrate VE Day 75 on 8 May with a doorstep toast
Sevenoaks Town Council is making plans for the town to celebrate VE Day 75 on 8 May 2020 despite the coronavirus lock down.
The date represents an important milestone in the history for our communities and the nation as 8 May 1945 was the day, 75 years ago, that peace broke out the the end of the second world war and brought an end to nearly six years of conflict.
Although still in lock-down, Sevenoaks Town Council is supporting the National Toast to the Heroes of WWII at 3pm and is encouraging resident to take part in a shared moment of celebration.
The Mayor of Sevenoaks, Councillor Nick Busvine OBE said: ‘We can still commemorate the anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8 May and pay tribute to our Second World War generation by having a ‘stay at home party’ and raising a toast on our front doorsteps at 3pm.”
