Tina, Wali and Cecilia prepare to jump out of a plane to support young people with mental health problems – and they would like your help
TINA Fenner, one of the partners at the Chocolate Shop in London Road, Sevenoaks, will be jumping out of a plane with her daughter Cecilia and their Afghani foster boy Wali next month to raise money for a mental health charity for young people.
The trio will be heading for Headcorn Aerodrome on Sunday 4 August to strap on a parachute and make their leap of faith in aid of the Young Minds organisation – and they are inviting people to support their efforts by donating to their just giving page (see details at end of story). There is also a donation box and sponsorship forms at The Chocolate Shop.
One in eight young people will be diagnosed with a mental health problem during their lifetimes which works out at an average to three pupils in every classroom.
Tina said: “Young Minds is an amazing organisation which helps to fill the gap in mental health services for young people. They offer tremendous support to parents, families and carers too.”
They came up with the idea of a sky dive last summer but now the 4 August date is getting closer the reality of what they are about to do is sinking in. It will be especially daunting for Cecilia as she has a fear of heights.
Tina added: “Wali is incredibly excited, I think Cecilia is wondering what she has let herself in for, and I’m going to have to be brave… but not nearly as brave as the youngsters Young Minds help, most of whom have experienced traumas and are facing up to challenges in their young lives for which they need all the help and support they can get.”
