Stag reopens after 14 month lockdown
The Stag has reopened following lockdown and saw a sell out audience for its first live show Laurel Canyon Legends on 20th May.
During the 14 month closure, the team has been working hard to redecorate and improve the building, refund more than £250,000 in ticket money, reschedule events and busily fundraise to keep The Stag afloat.
Just before the pandemic hit, The Stag was set to have its most commercially successful year yet. The not for profit charity lost £1million due to Covid 19 and the long period of closure put the future of the venue in doubt.
The fundraising campaign raised more than £75,000 from public donations and £29,000 from customers who donated their cancelled ticket money rather than accept a refund. The building work has been carried out thanks to the support from the public and funding from Sevenoaks Town Council, Arts Council England and other grant providers.
Stag Business Development Manager Lisa Whitbread: “We are enormously grateful for the support we have received over the last year. It really is thanks to the local enthusiasm for The Stag to survive that has kept us going. We’ve stayed positive and worked very hard to improve the building to make it even better and safer for everyone. It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back. Now it’s time to book those tickets and come and enjoy some great films and live shows again.”
Shows coming up include comedian Milton Jones on 30th May, a night of jazz with Major to Minor, also on 30th May, brand new stage show 2020 The Musical on 4th, 5th and 6th June and panto favourite Silly Billy’s Sunday Funday on 13th June.
