Sevenoaks Mayor treats veterans from the Armed Forces to breakfast at Bat & Ball Cafe
Twenty veterans from the Armed Forces enjoyed breakfast with the Mayor of Sevenoaks, Nicholas Busvine OBE, at the recently refurbished Bat & Ball Café in Sevenoaks on Friday (22 November 2019).
They were able to meet and chat with other service personnel from the Sevenoaks area in an informal setting while enjoying a free breakfast and a cuppa.
Also at the gathering were representatives from SSAFA, one of the charities Cllr Busvine is supporting during his year as Mayor.
It is an organisation close to his heart from his time as a former diplomat who regularly served alongside the Armed Forces.
Cllr Busvine said: ‘It was an honour to meet so many former service personnel and humbling to hear their stories.
“I feel by enabling them to get together and share their experiences is a small but valuable contribution, particularly as representatives of SSAFA, who as the leading Armed Forces Charity, were present and able to provide advice and support if needed.”
As well as Armed Forces veterans, the SSAFA support covers regulars and reserves in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army and the Royal Air Force and their families, including anyone who has completed National Service. They are all entitled to lifelong support from SSAFA, no matter how long they have served.
