Quizzes, fairs, summer shows, exhibitions, and fetes in Otford – get these dates in your diary

OTFORD PATIENT GROUP’S QUIZ starts at 7.30pm tonight (Friday 14 June) in St Edith’s Hall, Kemsing to raise funds for a second Surgery Pod in addition to the one about to be installed at Otford Surgery. The ‘Pod’ enables patients to check blood pressure, weight and other vital statistics immediately before their Doctor or Nurse appointment.  If you would like to raise a team (up to 10 people) or just come as an individual please contact Ken Cardinal 01959 522513 or email: kencardinal2@gmail.com

ST BARTHOLEMEW’S CHURCH FAIR takes place on the village green from 2pm on Saturday 15 June, although the food area will open earlier at approximately 1.30pm. Stalls will include books, plants, cakes, crafts, white elephant, prize draw, gifts, bottles, toys, soft drinks, strawberries and cream, and ices.  Other attractions include children’s games and a bouncy caste. There will be a children’s art competition with the theme of ‘A Celebration of Flight’ with two categories 7-11 and under 7 with prizes. All village children are welcome to submit an entry. ART IN JUNE: Angela Bishop and daughter, Suzie Galloway, as part of Art in June, are exhibiting their sculptures, paintings, and glasswork in the garden and studios at 5, Broughton Road, Otford, 01959 523203 from 8-23 June between 11am and 5pm or by appointment. OTFORD OAST WI: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, 20 June, at 9.30am in Otford Village Memorial Hall. A talk will be given by Clare Oldfield on Antiscam Advice. New members are welcome, the first meeting is free. For further information email: otfordoastwi@mail.com

OTFORD GARDENER’S SOCIETY is holding its Rose and Summer Show on Saturday, 22 June. It  will bring together the beautiful flowers and tasty fruit and vegetables from the early summer garden. Also featured are flower arrangements, cookery and photographic classes. The show takes place in the Village Memorial Hall and  opens to the public at 2.15pm. Homemade teas are available until 4pm. HOSPICES OF HOPE, the charity based in Otford High Street, is holding another of its popular Quiz Nights on Saturday 6 July.  Doors open at 7pm with supper served at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £13.50 and include a light supper. Teams of 6-8 can enter or just go as an individual and join a team. OTFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL’S PTFA Summer Fete will take place between noon and 4pm on Saturday 6 July on the school field.  It promises a fun afternoon of music, traditional games, pony rides, summer shopping, BBQ, beer tent, fizz and strawberries as well as a Grand Draw, tombola’s and silent auction. There will also be a baking competition, inflatables, face painting, and lots of stalls and games for all the family.  Adult entry £1, children are free.
