Help light up the village during the festive period by taking part in the Living Advent Calendar

LIVING ADVENT CALENDAR: This year marks the third year of the Weald Living Advent Calendar when residents feature a scene in their windows. The organisers of this special village event say: “We hope that everyone is continuing to enjoy this community event. Creating something special in the lead up to Christmas to share with others has enthused many of you, but we’d love even more Wealdens getting involved.”

Volunteers from 24 households, businesses or community buildings in Weald village are needed to illuminate a window with festive decorations in December. One window is ‘opened’ each day at 6.30pm from 1-24 December and remains illuminated until Twelfth Night (5 January). It’s not a competition, and volunteers can create any kind of festive decoration.

There are only two rules – one is that it must be centred around a window that is easily visible to the public and the second is that window must be illuminated.

If you would like to take part, please let the organisers know by 1 November by emailing: matthewyates@hotmail.com or call: 01732 668932

WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES… The Weald Community Shop by The Green has finally got a new door. Last year the shop was broken into leaving a splintered hole in the front door. It has taken a while to replace it, but quality workmanship is not instant and it has been worth the wait.

ON GUARD: Weald resident Stella Donati was selected for the British Under 17s fencing team taking part in an international competition in Hungary last week. At the age of 13, Stella is one of the youngest fencers to be selected to join the GBR Cadets and, alongside other team members, fenced against the USA, Italy, Russia and Hungary.
