Being able to refill your water bottles for free is part of a scheme introduced by the Town Council to make Sevenoaks ‘Plastic Free’

THE TOWN’S aim to become a ‘Plastic Free Sevenoaks’ was explained to the local business community during a meeting of the Sevenoaks & District Chamber of Commerce held on Wednesday (1 May) at Wagamama in the High Street.

One of the ways Sevenoaks is achieving this is by introducing its own water bottle refill scheme and the details were outlined by Sevenoaks Town Council Clerk Linda Larter during the chamber meeting.

Several businesses in the area have already signed up to allow people to refill Sevenoaks Reusable Water Bottles which are available to buy from Sevenoaks Town Council.

Businesses participating in the scheme are displaying a logo which lets people know free refills are available and those in Sevenoaks include:

Sevenoaks Wildlife reserve

Café on the Vine

Café at Bat & Ball Statiom

Rafferty’s

Eat ‘n’ Mess

Malabar

The Stag Theatre

The Café and Sandwich Bar

Sevenoaks District Council

Sevenoaks Town Council and the Sevenoaks Youth Council have committed to phasing out single-use plastic across all facilities and is encouraging local groups and organisations to do the same.

However, the Town Council does recognise that at crowded events such as fetes and parties, using real glasses may create a safety hazard from breakages etc. In these circumstances, the council advocates the use of sturdy plastic cups that can be cleaned and reused an ultimately recycled.

The council has produced a leaflet which invites local organisations to sign up to help reduce the use of single use plastic.

To find out more about this and how you can purchase your own Sevenoaks refillable water bottle, call Sevenoaks Town Council on 01732 459953, email them on: council@sevenoakstown.gov.uk

Or visit the council website at: www.sevenoakstown.gov.uk

There is also a free app which you can download to your phone which shows you the nearest waterbottle refill point wherever you are in the UK. For more information visit:
