Building a community of crafters in Sevenoaks – don’t miss your chance to learn new skills

A NEW network, known as Sevenoaks Crafters, has been set up to help people explore and learn new practical skills. The network has been set up by Emily Bradshaw, an experienced teacher and multi-disciplined craftswoman, with the aim of combining her passion with her love of passing on knowledge to others.

As well as building a community of local crafters, Emily offers courses on a diverse range of traditional and modern crafts. The first courses on offer include;

Learn to sew beginner’s course – bring your own sewing machine and learn how to set it up, wind a new bobbin, check the thread tension, straight stitch and then hand sew decorations. Only two places per session to ensure that everyone gets the attention they need and come away happy that they can continue to sew independently. Course materials are all included in the price, just let Emily know if you have a colour or pattern preference in the making of a cushion and bring some lunch. Tea, coffee and biscuits all included. £50 per person for the day.

Beginner’s dressmaking course – Bring your sewing machine and learn how to create a garment from a pattern. This course will involve making a pair of cotton pyjama bottoms. You will learn to cut a pattern, follow the instructions included in sewing pattern envelopes and how to size your work. All course materials are included but lunch is not, bring this and your sewing machine with you. Tea, coffee, biscuits and enthusiasm will flow freely though. Cost for the day is £70.

Make your own traditional teddy – A more advanced course for those who are happy with hand sewing as well as a little sewing machine stitching. Create your own traditional jointed teddy from scratch. All course materials are included and as this is quite a labour intensive course this is a 1:1 course only. £120 per person for the day.

Future course will include; leather working, furniture reupholstering, smoking & curing,
