Solid displays see Oaks U14s through to Kent Cup rugby final on 7 April
SEVENOAKS Rugby Club Under 14s had two teams in action in the knockout stages of the Kent Cup in on Sunday – the 1sts at Blackheath and the A team at Bromley.
The 1sts progressed to the Cup Final thanks to two outstanding winning displays in the Cup Quarter and Semi Final stages.
First up Oaks faced hosts Blackheath in the quarter final and won through 12-0 thanks to two well worked second half tries. Blackheath defended and competed strongly, but Oaks gradually found some rhythm to put the game away.
In the semi final Oaks defeated a resolute Canterbury 19-0. Scores were all square at 0-0 at half time but after the break Sevenoaks took the game to Canterbury with their best display of the season to date to score three unanswered second half tries.
The first resulted from a charge down after Sevenoaks set up camp on the Canterbury try line, the second saw Oaks pirouette over from close range and the best was saved for last as an outrageous behind the back pass in working the ball down the line put the Oaks winger into space to seal the try and with it the match to book a berth in the Kent Cup Final on 7 April.
The As in the Plate at Bromley began in fine form to put Sidcup away 14-5 in the quarter final. The win set up a Plate semi final encounter against an imposing Gravesend whose hard running lines and continuity with ball in hand were a step beyond Oaks on the day. After a solid and resolute start by Sevenoaks, Gravesend ran out convincing 30-0 winners.
