Sewell claims hat-trick during 8-1 win over Bromley & Beckenham
SEVENOAKS Junior Hockey club Boys U18 team started their England Hockey National Cup campaign recently with a 8-1 victory away against Bromley & Beckenham U18s.
After a high intensity and focused warm up the boys started extremely well winning a penalty corner with their first attack of the match. This saw Alex Thomson follow up on the initial shot to fire it away at close range to put Sevenoaks ahead. However they were not able to stay on top and allowed Brom Beck to draw level after some sloppy defending.
Oaks were very determined not to let this happen again and after some great attacking work by Luke Lane down the right, Ashley Sewell put Sevenoaks ahead again with some great finishing. Brom Beck put pressure on the Oaks defence and keeper Harry Wade had to pull of a couple of incredible saves to ensure they were denied any further scoring opportunities. Before half time Ben Fox secured the lead with a superb individual goal.
Oaks went out in the second half determined to maintain their momentum, keep their shape and use the width more and were soon rewarded with a another goal after some super team work which saw Alex Thomson claim his second with a brilliantly taken shot. Ashley Sewell added to his tally and Matt Morey also got his name on the score sheet after some super team play working the ball out from defence and through the mid field.
Oaks continued to pile on the pressure and Ashley Sewell scored once again to claim a well deserved hat trick. Soon after this full back Chris Hudson ran through from the back and firmly slotted the ball into the net to seal a convincing victory for Sevenoaks.
Sevenoaks Squad: Harry Wade (GK), Chris Hudson (Captain), Oscar Brown, Matt Barker, Ben Fox, Luke Lane, Matt Morey, Alex Thomson, Ollie Bateman, Ashley Sewell, Seb Evans, Cameron McCabe, Ralgh Lavercombe
U14 Girls notch up 13 goals against Tunbridge Wells
SEVENOAKS U14 girls A team recorded an impressive 13-0 victory against Tunbridge Wells at home in the England hockey national cup recently.
Sevenoaks started well, winning a penalty corner within 16 seconds of the push back and scoring the first goal after only three minutes with a fine shot from Josefina Hippe. Sevenoaks completely dominated the first 30 minutes and went into the half time break with a convincing 9-0 lead with further goals from Amelie Allen (3), Lottie Bingham (2), Olivia Breed (2) and Phoebe Gough Cooper.
Tunbridge Wells managed to tighten up defensively in the second half and their goalkeeper made some fine saves to keep out many good attacks. But Olivia Breed still managed to complete her hat trick and there were further goals from Lulu Stephens and Annabel Cheveley (2) to record a well deserved and impressive 13-0 victory for Sevenoaks.
…and it’s a goal fest for the U14 Boys as well
The Sevenoaks Boys U14A Hockey team put in another commanding performance recently to win their latest England Hockey cup match.
For the second match in succession they scored more than 10 goals in a game. Having beaten Marlow 13-1 in their last league outing, they overcame a spirited Marden side 11-2.
The early stages were evenly contested, but once the Sevenoaks defence had mastered the pacey Marden attack – who looked dangerous on the break – there only looked like one winner.
Solid defending, creative and incisive midfield interplay and a lively attack that was irrepressible team play in parts, proved too strong for the opposition to handle.
Goals were distributed across the side, led by Robin Docherty who top scored with five.
