Charlie Sweet picks up a hat-trick of trophies at Kemsing Tennis Club’s finals day
KEMSING LTC was lucky once again with the weather for its annual club tournament finals day when spectators were treated to some exciting tennis and a tasty BBQ lunch.
The morning started with siblings Charlie and Emma Sweet retaining their mixed doubles title with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Jane Ladbury and Matt Bance .
Charlie Sweet then faced Matt Bance again in the Men’s Singles and after two close sets emerged as the victor by 6-4, 7-5.
Junior playing member Nina Sherwen proved she is one to watch in the future when she convincingly defeated Sue Glass 6-0, 6-1 in the Ladies Singles final.
Charlie Sweet then completed a personal hat-trick when he won his third title of the day with Steve Herbert in the men’s doubles against Howard Cloke and Mark Chandler.
This proved to be a real thriller as Charlie and Steve had to fight back from 5-0 down in the first set to win seven games in a row to clinch the set 7-5. In the second set they again found themselves 3-0 down but managed to get back on level terms and eventually won the set on a tie-break.
Sisters Nina and Olivia Sherwen won the Ladies doubles 6-0 6-1 against Jane Ladbury and Sue Glass and the afternoon concluded with Howard Cloke winning the Men’s Vets Singles match against Paul Moran 6-4 7-5.
Kemsing prides itself on being a friendly village club set in beautiful surroundings with four floodlit courts. If you would like to join you are very welcome to come and play first and get to know other members.
